HAVASUPAI ALUMNI & FRIENDS 2016
Havasupai Trek
At the bottom of the Grand Canyon is Havasu, an oasis threaded by cool, blue green waters, travertine cliffs, waterfalls, and lush vegetation. The spectacular scenery and the history of the Havasupai tribe who have called this area home combine to create an unforgettable destination for the Trekking for Kids Alumni and Friends Adventure.
Trekkers will meet in Phoenix for the 4 hour drive through the Sonoran desert to the south rim of the Grand Canyon, one of the world's seven natural wonders. After enjoying the awe-inspiring, immense vistas of shifting light and color at the Grand Canyon, we will spend the night near the Havasupai trailhead so we can get an early start the next morning. The 10 mile trek down the Hualupai trail, switchbacking down canyon walls, and through the Native American village of Havasupai will take us to our campsite along the banks of the crystal clear Havasu Creek. For three nights, TFK trekkers will enjoy camping in comfortable tents and with all meals prepared under the open skies. During the day, we will relish the beauty of Havasu Falls, hike the numerous side canyons and trek to multiple waterfalls.
Trekkers will only have to carry a daypack as all gear will be carried by pack animals. We require that all Trekkers be in good physical condition and able to hike for several hours non-stop, carrying a daypack in hot temperatures. It’s important that a good physical conditioning program be undertaken a couple of months before departure.
To support the continuing work of Trekking for Kids and our mission to improve the lives of children around the world, the fundraising proceeds of the adventure will benefit the operations of TFK. Trekkers will be asked to raise $1000 in tax-deductible donations.
