Alumni & Friends Trek 2020: Southern Utah

Our Adventure

Join us for an Alumni and Friends Trek to the red rocks of Southern Utah, ending at the world class mountain resort of Sundance in northern Utah. For 5 days we will explore some of the most beautiful and unique landscapes in the world.

We start in the world-renowned town of Moab which will be our home base for a couple of nights. Upon arrival we will hike to Mesa Arch in Canyonlands National Park and then visit Dead Horse Point State Park for a spectacular sunset view 2,000 ft above the Colorado River. The next day will begin with a wild off-road guided adventure in utility terrain vehicles (UTV) over slick rock and desert landscapes, followed by an afternoon of hiking in Arches National Park to iconic destinations like Delicate Arch, Landscape Arch and the Windows.

We will then continue the next day to the San Rafael Swell and Goblin Valley State Park to visit unique geological formations that cannot be seen anywhere else in the world. We will introduce you to slot canyon hiking in Little Wild Horse Canyon and the hoodoos or little "goblins" of Goblin Valley that make this park so unique. After a day of exploration, we will continue on to the quaint town of Torrey at the entrance to Capitol Reef National Park where we will spend the next two nights.

Capitol Reef

Capitol Reef National Park, in the heart of red-rock country, is a desert oasis of red and white sandstone cliffs, lush green riverbanks, and a colorful desert floor. Some of the highlights will be exploring an amazing slot canyon located in the Waterpocket Fold, hiking to Hickman Bridge, a 133-ft beautiful natural sandstone bridge and visiting a wall of petroglyphs.

After four wonderful days of desert exploration, we will head north to overnight at the luxury mountain resort of Sundance in the heart of the Wasatch Mountains in Provo. The spectacular alpine mountain views and cool air will be a sharp contrast to our desert adventure as we explore the trails near Sundance Mountain Resort and enjoy a “spooky” late night Halloween lift ride. The next day we will take you to the Salt Lake City airport to return home.

All transportation, including airport pick-up and drop-off (single group transfer) in Moab and Salt Lake City, hotel and resort accommodations, most meals, guided off-road utility terrain vehicle (UTV) ride, scenic chair lift ride, National and State Park fees, and TFK guides will be provided. Since we will be day-hiking you will only need to carry a daypack. We will hike an average of 4-6 hours a day.

Please contact Tricia Donaldson, Director of Operations, for more information.
