Trekking for kids

Jordan is one of the Middle East's best spots for outdoor adventures and history with its many canyons (wadis) and desert landscapes that draw in and grab the imagination of all who venture there. It's a terrain at the crossroads of history, faiths, and civilizations that will be made unforgettable to you because of the spectacular experience you will have with the beautiful land and people of Jordan.

Our Trek

Our 5-day trek to Petra, overnight adventure in the desert of Wadi Rum (where some scenes of Dune were filmed), including a jeep and camel trek, a float in the Dead Sea, and a visit to Mt. Nebo, will take us to many of the spectacular highlights that Jordan has to offer. The trek into Petra and walk around this UNESCO wonder will be the crown jewel of the trip. Explore the gorges and the many archeological wonders in Petra by walking, climbing or even riding a donkey! From The Treasury (which appeared in "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade"), to the Royal Tombs to the Monastery to the ancient theater, and to the water channels carved in the gorge walls, the site is peppered with places to explore.

Our trek will be led by local guides and fully supported. We will trek an average of 5-7 hours a day carrying only a daypack. We will stay in hotels, the famous Feynan Ecolodge, tents, and even a bubble dome in the desert during our time in Jordan. We require that all Trekkers be in good physical condition and able to hike for several hours non-stop, carrying a daypack. It's important that a good physical conditioning program be undertaken a couple of months before departure.

Our Work

We will spend several days working with the Wadi Musa Orphanage Centre located near Petra. This organization works with orphans and at risk- children's in the surrounding villages. We will spend three fun filled days working on improvement projects at their homes, taking them shopping for clothes, and taking them on a field trip to a local point of interest. These days will be a very rewarding and memorable part of the trip as we will not only see firsthand how the money we raised was put to use, but we will also be able to get to know these amazing kids and their fascinating culture.

3 Step Process

1. Apply • Fill out the online application
• Pay $500 deposit ($50 non-refundable)

2. Prepare • Read Information and Fundraising Packet from TFK
• Start a training regimen if not already exercising regularly
• Fundraise for orphanage projects
• Gather all necessary gear for the Trek
• Pay remaining Expedition fees
• Arrange flights

3. Experience • Arrive in-country.
• Enjoy a trip of a lifetime!
