Trekking for kids

This 10-day journey through Jordan blends epic adventure with meaningful service. From the sweeping canyons of the Dana to Petra Trail to the vast red deserts of Wadi Rum, this experience is designed to challenge, inspire, and create lasting impact.

Our Trek

We begin on the famed Dana to Petra Trail recognized by National Geographic as one of the worlds top 15 hikes. Over five days, we trek ancient Bedouin paths through the dramatic landscapes of the Dana Biosphere Reserve, approaching Petra through its spectacular back door. Along the way, we camp beneath vast desert skies two nights in expedition-style tents with portable toilets and one night in upgraded tents with private bathrooms and enjoy an optional hike through the narrow sandstone gorge of Wadi Ghewir. A memorable evening at Feynan Ecolodge offers candlelit comfort, traditional cuisine, and time to learn about Bedouin culture or explore nearby trails.

Two days in Petra allow us to walk through the Siq to the iconic Treasury, hike to the Monastery, and discover the remarkable Nabatean city carved into rose-red stone.

The adventure continues south into the sweeping desert of Wadi Rum a cinematic landscape featured in Dune. Here we experience a jeep safari across towering rock formations, a camel trek at sunset, and one night in panoramic bubble domes with private facilities under brilliant night skies. We will also float effortlessly in the mineral-rich waters of the Dead Sea, visit the historic summit of Mount Nebo, and explore the mosaic-filled streets of Madaba on our way back to Amman at the conclusion of our trip.

Our trek will be led by local guides and fully supported. We will trek an average of 5-7 hours a day carrying only a daypack.We require that all Trekkers be in good physical condition and able to hike for several hours non-stop, carrying a daypack. It’s important that a good physical conditioning program be undertaken a couple of months before departure.

Our Work

As with all of Trekking for Kids trips, Adventure is only part of the experience. We will spend several days working alongside the Wadi Musa Orphanage Centre and supporting families in a nearby under-served village a community Trekking for Kids partnered with in 2014 and is anxious to return to serve again.

Participants will help improve homes for vulnerable part member families of single mothers or older siblings caring for younger children. Through painting, repairs, and other meaningful upgrades, we will help create safer and healthier living spaces for the children. As always, the highlight of this experience will be spending meaningful time with the children sharing activities, games, and connection that will also leave a lasting impact.

This trip combines an incredible trek with meaningful service, giving you the opportunity to explore one of the worlds great trails while making a real difference in the lives of children and families in the area where we trek.

3 Step Process

1. Apply • Fill out the online application
• Pay $500 deposit ($50 non-refundable)

2. Prepare • Read Information and Fundraising Packet from TFK
• Start a training regimen if not already exercising regularly
• Fundraise for orphanage projects
• Gather all necessary gear for the Trek
• Pay remaining Expedition fees
• Arrange flights

3. Experience • Arrive in-country.
• Enjoy a trip of a lifetime!
