Many of the victims of the flood were sons and husbands working near the border, tragically leaving behind many women, some pregnant, and with young children, living in areas further from the disaster struck area. Their sources of support have perished and the Nepali government and NGOs are not focusing on these women and children, because their homes are intact and they were not in the flood zone. With any additional funds we receive, Jagat will purchase and deliver to these women emergency food supplies such as lentils, rice, and cooking oil.

Thank you for your generous donations. We have raised our fundraising goal since the cost of the gas cylinders is higher than expected since they are in such high demand. Jagat is working with several suppliers now. Any excess funds will be used to purchase additional supplies for the families in these three villages.Thank you.

It’s with heavy hearts that we write about the tragedy in Nepal. We’ve been fortunate to establish enduring friendships during our many trips to Nepal over the years. We’re relieved to report our lead guide and friend, Jagat Lama and his family are safe, along with his team of trekking guides.

Jagat, as “mayor” of Kumari in the Nuwakot district, has been helping three communities (Belkotgardhi Oda Numbers 5,7,8) in his district along the Trishuli River that were hard hit by the flooding waters. Many families in that area lost everything, including home furnishing, kitchens, and cooking supplies. While it might seem like a small effort, we are raising funds to help Jagat purchase cooking gas cylinders and portable stoves to distribute to people now living in shelters.

One gas cylinder costs approximately $30 and one stove costs $20 so for $50 you can help one family begin to rebuild their lives. It is our goal to help 100 families.
