Our Adventure

Join us for a first ever alumni & friends trek to Iceland on one of the most popular hiking routes in Iceland, the Laugavegur trail. This 35-mile trail passes through a diverse range of environments, from glaciers and geysers to alpine deserts and lush forests. This trek was voted one of the '20 Best Hikes in the World' by National Geographic.

For 5 days, from Landmannalaugar to Porsmork (Valley of Thor), you'll cross sparkling rivers, navigate through steep valleys, and climb up high mountain passes, taking in views of colorful rhyolite mountains, black sand deserts, and glaciers in the distance. The area is also home to a wealth of wildlife, including reindeer and arctic foxes, and is renowned for its hot springs and natural steam baths, which provide the perfect opportunity to relax and soak up the rugged beauty of the surroundings. Whether you're a seasoned trekker or a beginner, the Laugavegur trek is a truly unforgettable experience.

Our Trek will be led by a knowledgeable local guide and gear will be carried by vehicle each day so you only need to carry a daypack. We will hike 4-7 hours a day over varied terrain, sleeping in mountain huts. The huts are basic facilities that provide shelter, a place to sleep, and cooking facilities. They are dormitory-style with bunk beds and mattresses. You will need to bring your own sleeping bag. All huts are heated and some have electricity and hot water. We require that all Trekkers be in good physical condition. It’s important that a physical conditioning program be undertaken at least three months before departure.

Our Work

Participants will be asked to raise $1000 in tax-deductible donations to help Trekking for Kids continue its work to help children around the world.

2-day South Coast Adventure (Add On)

Spend two days exploring the stunning South Coast of Iceland and marvel at some of its most iconic natural wonders. We will visit Seljalandsfoss waterfall, a unique waterfall as you can walk behind it for a one-of-a-kind view; Skogafoss, another breathtaking waterfall that is one of the largest in the country; Reynisfiara beach, famous for its black sand and basalt columns; hikes through the Fjaorargljufur Canyon, a deep and narrow canyon with walls that rise up to 100 meters and Svartifoss waterfall, a picturesque waterfall surrounded by black basalt columns. We will also take a zodiac boat ride on Jokulsarlon lagoon, where you can witness huge chunks of ice from the glacier breaking off in the water and floating away. End the day at Diamond Beach, where pieces of ice wash up on the shore and sparkle like diamonds in the sunlight. Accommodations will be in hotels.

Price for South Coast Add On trip: $850

Expedition Requirements

• 18 years or older
• Good health
• Physically fit
• Willing to raise minimum $1000 for the projects

3 Step Process

1. Apply • Fill out the online application
• Pay $500 deposit ($50 non-refundable)

2. Prepare • Read Information and Fundraising Packet from TFK
• Start a training regimen if not already exercising regularly
• Fundraise for orphanage projects
• Gather all necessary gear for the Trek
• Pay remaining Expedition fees
• Arrange flights

3. Experience • Arrive in-country and meet your TFK group leaders and fellow Trekkers.
• Enjoy a trip of a lifetime!
